Re: Starflight Related Game Projects

Should be fixed now. I had upgraded the server without upgrading phpbb.

A decade ago I hex-edited Starflight II for fun. Quite a few new features and modifications. Trading for the Leghk battle jumper and lasers 50% stronger than plasma bolts was always fun.

Re: What game engine is suitable to make a Starflight game?

In our case we just had good programmers. I would definitely suggest some internet research to see if something better is out there. Also if you plan to do anything with open source or a community project, I strongly recommend reading this first: Producing Open Source Software: How to Run a Successf...

Re: Decontamination Mission bug?

I checked through the code on this side, artifact "Genetic Transporter Specifications" is given to you, but it will not if you have the artifact titled "Transporter Operating Code" in your inventory. If you have that artifact, either jettison it or sell it to starport. On your initial meeting with t...

Re: Defensive Alliance Mission Broken?

Yes, unfortunately it's a scripting bug -- the script only executes if you do not have a coalition computer in inventory -- I've corrected the bug on this side and will roll it up with a number of other things for the next patch, but for now you'll need to jettison it and obtain one when prompted.

Re: Suggestion

The majority of the developers are no longer around, and unfortunately I was not the one that made that change, nor do I know the source code in that section of the game. Also as you probably notice, the Starflightgame.com domain and forums are completely gone so I don't know when the change was mad...

Re: Questions, problems, and comments

You don't need to travel far and you don't have to circle anything, for Quest #5 "Engine Test", after you leave starport you need to tell the ships navigator to "orbit" to enter orbit mode - so you actually see the planet spinning around in the middle of the screen. You can then break orbit and retu...

Re: What game engine is suitable to make a Starflight game?

After experiencing all the headaches from going to start line to the finish line, here's my two cents: The majority of professional games create their own engines in order to optimize for speed and feature customization. Computer games require so many features and advances are often made in the engi...

Re: Tried combat... twice and was blown to bits!

Sorry about the misunderstanding, unfortunately this is the desired behavior. Quite a few people were involved in this project, and most of them have moved on. The combat algorithm is fairly simple: turn towards the player's current location, thrust at full speed towards the players current location...

Re: Tried combat... twice and was blown to bits!

The game runs under OpenGL which should show missiles and lasers from extreme long-distance just fine on any decent video card with updated video drivers. Several people have reported problems with laptops with inexpensive video cards without proper OpenGL support, but we've been unable to reproduce...
